Dear PHS Football Boosters, Coaches and Players
I would like to thank the Pattonville Football Boosters, Coach Don Greco and his staff and the PHS football team for making Awards Night a special evening. I knew that Coach Greco would not let the evening pass without acknowledging the fact that this was my last season. I must say, I didn't expect the extent of what was to happen that evening. I am truly grateful and thank each and every person that was involved. The past thirty-two years seems to have past in the blink of an eye. The reason for this, in my opinion, is the camaraderie of the coaching staffs as well as player-coach relationships. I have had the honor of working with some great coaches at PHS. Coaches that are dedicated to their sport and willing to spend the time and effort necessary to be successful. One thing players and parents need to know is that, no coaching staff will work harder than Coach Greco's and no coach will work harder than Don or Jim Greco. The coaches that I have been associated with over the years are still friends that can be counted on at any time for any thing. There have been championship seasons and seasons when we could win only a couple of games. In either situation it's the coaches and players relying on each other that makes coaching a great profession.
One of the biggest pleasures a coach can have is to watch a young man develop to the top of his capabilities. Seeing them make big plays in the big game or developing into an all-conference or all-state player is a source of pride for a coach. We also take great pride in seeing players with lesser abilities that practice every day and might not get into the game but receive the 12th Man Award or the Pirate Pride Award. It is heart warming and very gratifying to see the look on their faces when their name is announced.
Players will always have a special place in the hearts of their coaches, we are definitely prejudice toward these young men. A few days ago I ran into some former players. We didn't talk about football as much I love to talk the games, the big plays as well as the humorous events that happened. But we caught up on the direction their lives and how their families were doing. Coaches always enjoy seeing or hearing from former players. I will always feel indebted to our players because they have given me so much to be proud of. From the way they practice to the way they play the game and most important how they live their lives. We depend on our players all the time and one person they can always count on is their coach.
Thank You, for a great 32 seasons.
